HCS - Helping Others
Joe Schwab chaired Rampathon, a community service project offered by
the Remodelors Council of Master Builders of King and Snohomish
Counties, in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002.
One weekend per year, remodelors give their time and skill to
construct wheelchair access ramps for handicapped people who qualify
for aid. As chair, Joe was responsible for selecting recipients,
determining project feasibility, securing crews and funding. In the last
four years our combined efforts have brought wheelchair accessibility to
31 homeowners in four counties. The value of these contributions exceeds $80,000.
These ramps allowed wheelchair-bound adults or children free access
to outside their homes. Some recipients had not been outside for
years and had been unable to get themselves out in an emergency.
Participation in the Remodeled Homes Tour provides a win-win opportunity for the remodeling
community and the Seattle Aids Support Group. Remodelors like HCS showcase projects for public tour
and the proceeds benefit Seattle Aids Support Group. In support of the Tour, the Group provides staffing
for the Tour weekend.
